Based at: Service Headquarters, Valley Road, Portishead, Bristol
Hours: 42 Hours per week minimum (required to work hours commensurate with the role and the Principal Officer duty rota)
Salary: £148,238 per annum

Avon Fire Authority provides emergency and protection services to the communities of Bath & North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire through 21 fire stations. The Fire Authority seeks to appoint a Chief Fire Officer / Chief Executive to lead the organisation, uphold our values and strive for excellence in all areas. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an enthusiastic and innovative approach to the leadership of a large service area with a good grasp of and commitment to diversity, inclusion, cohesion and equality issues both within the organisation and in our communities.
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a clear understanding of the issues facing the Fire and Rescue Service both within Avon and the UK. They will be expected to enhance the culture and values of the organisation, providing strategic leadership and management, and building and maintaining high performance that will contribute to shaping the future services provided to the people of Avon.
Applications are invited from substantive existing Fire Service Principal Officers (Assistant Chief Fire Officers, Deputy Chief Fire Officers and Chief Fire Officers). Applicants will be required to participate in a range of recruitment and selection exercises including an application form, online psychometric tests, operational resilience business continuity exercise, stakeholder engagement sessions, presentation and formal interview.
Shortlisting will take place on 4 November, followed by selection exercises during November. Formal interviews with the Elected Members of our People & Culture Committee are scheduled for 13 and 14 December 2021.
