Hours: 37 hours per week (Monday-Friday on a 4 day rota)

Salary: £27,423 – £30,721 per annum (includes £5,240 market supplement)

Annual pay award is also pending

An opportunity has arisen to join Avon Fire and Rescue Service as a Vehicle Mechanic working within our purpose built workshop within a small supportive team. This is an interesting and varied role where you will use your technical expertise and skills to provide a critical support service ensuring our emergency operational vehicle fleet and associated equipment are serviced and repaired efficiently and effectively. 

 

You will carry out preventative maintenance and repairs on all firefighting vehicles, cars, vans, pick-ups and other ancillary vehicles including watercraft (Ribcraft boats and Griffon Hovercraft) in accordance with manufacturer guidelines to ensure legal requirements are met and agreed standards are maintained. You will also have responsibility for carrying our minor repairs to vehicles and plant bodywork, including painting and finishing to the required standard as well as maintaining relevant records and job cards for all repairs.

 

If you have a City and Guilds 1, 2 and 3 in Service and Repairs (for Vehicles up to 26 Tonnes) in light and commercial parts (or an equivalent qualification) and have experience of servicing and repairing vehicles up to 26 tonnes this role will fully utilise your skills.  We require all Mechanics to hold a current LGV ‘C’ class driving licence.  If you do not possess this we are willing to arrange and fund training to enable you to gain this qualification.  We will also fund the LGV medical. 

 

It is desirable to have knowledge of vehicle electrics, electronic circuitry, hydraulic operations and water pump pressure systems.  Specialist training can be provided as part of our ongoing commitment to staff training and continual professional development.  You will receive support and direction from your colleagues to enable you to become a valued member of our team.     
 

It is important that you are able to establish and maintain great working relationships with your colleagues, work on your own initiative and be committed to providing an excellent service and adhere to our strict health and safety requirements.  Avon Fire & Rescue Service offers excellent working conditions, including a 37 hour working week with rest breaks, 24 days holidays plus bank holidays, sick pay, LGPS pension, funded training, equipment, uniforms and a purpose built workspace. The role involves some on-call working, where you will be required to be available outside of core hours for 1 week in every 6 week period. You will receive an on-call allowance for this.
